Recensione : A Jazz Life Grazie al lungometraggio biografico di Franco Maresco "Io sono Tony Scott", ho imparato ad apprezzare questo grande musicista americano, di origini siciliane, che, affermatosi in America fin dagli anni '40 suonando con i grandi del jazz dell'epoca (Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie...), è stato considerato per diversi anni il miglior clarinettista del jazz moderno. Dopo un soggiorno in Oriente, si è trasferito in Italia, dove ha trascorso gli ultimi 40 anni della sua vita, e dove è morto nel 2007, rimanendo attivo fino alla fine, anche se qui da noi non è stato molto conosciuto. Questo CD, inciso poco prima di morire, per me è bellissimo e rappresenta una degna conclusione di una vita dedicata al jazz (come dice il titolo). E' interessante confrontare questo disco con i 2 CD che vanno sotto il titolo di "Bill Evans Tony Scott Quartet", che contiene le registrazioni effettuate da questo complesso dal 1957 al 1959, per vedere come in questo lungo arco di tempo la sua musica sia sempre rimasta a livelli eccelsi.
